Tissue Pom Poms

I had such a lovely arvo yesterday, whilst the kids went off to enjoy the bunny hunt. A dear friend of mine came over and we enjoyed some cake and tea whilst making beautiful pom poms for Es's party next weekend. There is something so special about having some crafting time with special friends, but I think the thing that makes it extra special is that we could talk for hours without any interruption from kids or other demands and it was pure bliss. We chilled out to some Katie Melua, and indulged in some mint chocolate cupcakes. Note to self: do it more often!

I love these pom poms, they are so easy to make and they have such visual impact. They are simply LUSH. I used quite large tissue paper sheets and around 8 sheets at a time. I followed this brief tutorial.

I am so excited as I am starting a 10 week beginners dressmaking course tonight. I have been wanting to do this for so long, but not been able to. It feels so liberating to step out into some kinda of normal world again, hurray! I really don't know much about dress making or even using a pattern, so it will be fun to finally get to grips with this. Most of my sewing, which I haven't been doing for that long really, since I fell ill three and a half years ago, was completely self taught and how I longed to have my mum around then to teach me. In my case I have had ample opportunity to learn all the skills necessary to be a pretty good darn seamstress as my mother is simply amazing, but offcourse when I was young I just didn't have much of an interest. I think that was largely due to the fact that I spent my days in front of piano practising whilst she sat in front of the sewing machine. How I wish I had made time, but such is life, that wonderful thing called hindsight.

Whilst on holiday I heard about the 'Great British Sewing Bee' and thanks to BBC iPlayer, I have watched both the episodes and its fair to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE! I felt a little sad when Tilly had to go as I kinda like her style, enthusiasm and creativity. There are some amazing seamsters amongst the remaining contestants and I look forward to watching the rest. Have you been watching and if so who's your fave??? I have two fave's, Lauren and Ann.

Hope your weekend was fun, what did you get up to?
