Decoupage with vintage wallpaper

A few months ago I purchased some lovely vintage wallpaper and vintage fabrics from the lovely Ada's Etsy shop and slowly I am getting around to using some of it. We have had this little trinket box, or a mini chest of drawers as Ikea refer to it, which has been crying out to be covered for quite some time and today was the day!

All in all it took no more than an hour and a half and I think it looks rather sweet in its new little coat. I absolutely love this wallpaper and for any of you with a similar project lined up or just in need of some wonderful vintage wallpaper, pop over to Ada's shop and grab yourself a bargain as she is currently selling the rolls off at a discounted price. Furthermore, she is also doing a wonderful giveaway to celebrate her blog's one year anniversary, so pop over to her blog to have a look.

Off to go and fill my little drawers with some crafty related bits and bobs.

Warm Wishes
Hannapat

  3. It's gone from 'ho-hum' to 'wowee!' With just a few dabs if paint and some fab paper, look what you have made! Well done! I hope you're not like me - after doing my bookshelves with Ada's papers, I wandered around the house, glue brush in hand, wondering what I could prettify next...Chrissie x

    1. You make me giggle, its good! Yes I have to admit after I did my first decoupage a few years back I was in very much the same paintbrush-in-hand-at-all-times zone. xo

  6. Can you please tell me what adhesive you used to stick the wallpaper to the drawers? I have a large trunk waiting for some of Ada's wallpaper also but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Advice would be ever so welcome.

    1. Hi Rosie
Thank you for your comment. I just used modge podge, but have also used wallpaper glue in the past. I really think it depends on the look you want. Personally I think modge podge works well enough, under the paper and on top. Modge podge can be expensive but you can make your own by using equal parts of water to equal parts of pva glue (just make sure to shake very well!!). I just use a paintbrush to apply and make sure you cut your pieces to the desired size before you glue it on to whatever you want to decoupage as cutting afterwards can lead to disasters, as I have learnt over the years. I really hope this helps?! Also I have used a clear varnish as a finish in the past, and it does add a lovely touch, but again it's a personal choice thing. What are you hoping to cover Looking forward to see what you do.
