I only have another couple of squares to finish and then its time for the border. I do have a slight impasse in that the wool intended for the border has nearly run out and I can't source more, oops! As we speak I have a few ideas of how to solve the problem, but only time will tell. For now, I can only but hope that this weekend will provide lots of lovely moments for hooking and right now I am feeling rather hopeful.
One always need a little companion for these moments and nothing does it better than a cuppa and a flapjack. Having tried quite a few different flapjack recipes, I always come back to Rachel Allen's recipe with dessicated coconut. The recipe asks to combine it with chocolate, but we all prefer it without.
Our weekend plans are usually dominated by birthday parties, and this weekend is no different. With a rather dank weather forecast for the weekend, plans are largely on hold, hence the optimism for some crochet time. I'm not sure whether we will manage another coat of paint on the wendy house, but I promise to share once completed. There is also the plan to make some bowls out of doilies, so we will see how this goes. Have you ever tried this and if so did you use sugar or fabric stiffener?? What are your experiences here?
For now, it's time to sign off, but before I go, I want to share some very delicious parcels I have recently received from orders I placed at the Vintage Sheet Addict Etsy shop. Ada is running a 20% off promotion until tomorrow, you can read more about it on her very lovely blog. I was delighted today when my second parcel arrived and here's what I found inside.
I just love all these retro wallpapers and look forward to putting them into good use. My fave, which I LOVE, is the third roll from the top in the first photo.
So what are your plans for the weekend?? What projects are you working on?
Wishing you all a very lovely weekend, thanks for stopping by.
xoxo

ReplyDeleteHi Heather, lovely to see you over here, thanks for stopping by. Yes, its amazing how much work goes into these things, but it is all very rewarding and well worth the effort. xo

Thanks that very lovely of you. The flapjacks are all gone now, it never last long in our house. Hope you've had a lovely weekend xo
DeleteHoi hoi,
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog. Woww! You are very productive, you make so many beautiful things. I love your rose sofa in the banner!
I never heard the word "flapjack" before (I'm Belgian) so I learned something today. And your plaid seems very very cosy. I like its colours being greedy for colours myself.
Check it out at my blog:

At this moment I've got a little givewaway running.
Have a nice Mother's Day!
Brigitte
Hello Brigitte. Thank you for you all your lovely comments, I certainly enjoy a bit of colour too. I can't wait to venture over to you to have a little peak. Happy Mothers Day to you xo
DeleteHAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, HANNAHPAT! First of all - great job on the afghan - I hope you find just the right border yarn. I am interested in what's in your flapjacks...we refer to pancakes as flapjacks, here in the states.
ReplyDeleteAnother blogger was asking about stiffening crochet yesterday, too - most of the suggestions were as you already suggested. We have something sold in craft stores over here, called STIFFY Fabric Stiffener.
Also just read your post on ME - here's to continued health and kicking ME's butt!!! Tanya
Awh thanks so much Tanya, what a lovely message! I sure to hope to kick it's butt!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the product STIFFY, thats made me giggle, do you reckon they sell alot of it? ha-ha!
My sugar solution didn't work, so today I have tried Aileen's fabric stiffener, which I presume is much the same as STIFFY so I will let you know how it goes. I have used it in the past, but it never works well enough and I can't imagine it working for a bowl?!
Now flapjacks, they consist of oats, syrup, desicated coconut, a little rice flour (or normal) and butter (or sunflower spread in our case). If you want I can send you the recipe and you can give it a whirl. Send me your email or I can post it on your very lovely blog. xoxo
Oh, it is so beautiful!!! Love all the pretty colors you did!! I made one, too!! It was a fun project! Hope you had a wonderful and sweet weekend!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely Heather. Would love to see what you did with yours!! Xo
DeleteBrilliant blanket, can't wait to see what you do with those goodies! :) x
