My finished Spring Throw

Hello lovely people. I have been meaning to show you this blanket since I finished it in the middle of February, but for whatever reason, it is finally happening today.

I started this blanket during our holiday to Italy last year, it seemed like the perfect poolside companion and also a good way to kill time during our journeys to Pisa, Florence and Rome. Sadly due to my fund raising commitments at the end of last year it was put to one side as soon as we returned from holiday and it didn't get a look in until shortly after Christmas.

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this throw, not only was it very easy crocheting, but it was also the perfect companion through the cold and dark winter months whilst watching countless episodes of Silent Witness and Sherlock.

All in all it took me around two months to make my Spring Throw, baring in mind that I very rarely crochet during the day and generally only crochet for around 45 minutes max whilst I watch telly at night. So if you have a little more time each day, you could whip this up in no time at all.

I used Stylecraft Special DK and followed a pattern from Catherine Hirst's book Granny Square Crochet, which I have spoken about here and even though I wouldn't say that this is to my usual taste, I am just a little in love with this throw. I am very much a muted colour kinda gal (greys, pinks, greens, blues, etc), but I love the zingy and zesty spring colours and it certainly knows just how to lift the soul. It also feeds my current obsession with anything yellow!

The process was devoid of any systemic approach with regards to the combination of colours, but that worked well for me. Vibrant and free.

For the border I just worked the recommended crab stitch edging, largely because I was curious about how it would look. I must confess that I was very tempted to give this blanket a picot edge, but in the end, I went for the simple crab stitch, which I personally think is a little to simple for my liking. Maybe one day I will feel the need to redo the edging, but for now it is happily lying on our bed waiting for warmer days so I can pack away the eiderdown to reveal its full beauty.

This is the second blanket that I have crocheted and I must say that despite hubby's comment that we don't need any more blankets around the house, I am already secretly planning the next, which I suspect will be another picnic blanket (ssshhh don't tell him! Lets hope he's not reading this post!). What is it with my obsession with picnic blankets? I suspect that it is my constant yearning for a little sun and some warmer days where we can ground ourselves whilst lazing around somewhere by a brook enjoying family picnics.

One of the things that I love about blogging is that you can look back over your achievements and record your emotions surrounding a particular project too. We often forget how we felt when we made something or the exact time we made it, what inspired it, etc. Life is short and precious and I often feel so grateful that I can surround myself with handmade things that bring a little colour and joy into my life.

Before I go I just wanted to say thank you to each and everyone of you who read and commented on my Balance post. It was something that I just felt an intense urge to write. Thank you for all your words of wisdom, love and support, you are all pretty AMAZING!

Wishing you all a very lovely and enjoyable weekend.
Warm Wishes
Hannapat
xoxo

  4. It's so beautiful. I love the white with light colors. It looks lovely on your bed. I have so many blankets lined up in my head, it's a little scary. I probably have five years' worth of crocheted blankets ahead of me. :)

  8. Your blanket is beautiful... you do need more blankets, just as you need more shoes. You can tell hubby those words of wisdom from me! We spray painted a bird box hot pink last autumn and as I type this, a blue tit has gone into it to investigate. Very exciting; i'm off to get the camera. Enjoy your blanket xxx

  9. What an absolutely beautiful fresh, spring and happy blanket, I love it . Such a perfect fit for your bed and I am surprised at how warm and snugly Stylecraft is in a blanket, I am really pleased as yarn can be so costly when making a blanket. Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better now and I hope you weekend continues to be full of the joys of Spring xxx

  12. This is a lovely blanket, I very much like it. I try to make a blanket a year because really, you can never have enough! Cx

  13. For goodness sake, what is it with men and their idea that there's some such thing as "enough blankets"? There can never be too many blankets, think of all of the things they can be used for. And all of the people they will be passed on to. This spring blanket is wonderful, just right for this time of year. I'm impressed (and encouraged!) with how quickly you made it. I only have a similar amount of time each day for making things, and sometimes they seem to grow SO slowly. I hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend. I shall be looking forward to seeing the start of a new blanket soon. CJ xx

  16. This blanket is a beauty lovely Hannapat - it's quite distinct in it's design and does look so fresh, bright and light! I love it! Our (warm) blanket weather is coming up and still I haven't worked on my ripple for ages - I really need to get it finished!
I agree with you, blogging is such a great way to keep track of ourselves as well as our projects! So what colours are you planning for your next blanket? Just do it! Be a rebel! Have a happy Sunday my dear friend, sending much love, Joy xoxo

  17. I can't believe how quickly you completed this blanket! It feels like a very short time ago when you packed out the granny squares in the lounge in Italy! And now complete and beautiful! You amaze me all the time with the way you can get the most out of every minute that you have available.Well done!

  18. What a gorgeous blanket! I love the mix of squares and stripes - it really adds a pretty touch having the square border at the top of your bed. And the colours! They just sing of spring and summer...but of course you should have another blanket that is more suited to autumn and winter, so tell hubby these are *seasonal* blankets and you simply must make another... (I am quite good at justifying anything, I can come up with five other reasons that you must make a blanket if you need them!) well done with this big accomplishment! Chrissie x

  30. Oh Hannapat, I just got your mail. Thank you so much for thinking of me, I'm really touched. It is just news that I needed after a month of very bad health and hearing from my specialist today that I need to spend next week in hospital for a series of tests. Scary is not the word for it.
But I must say the sight of your beautiful blanket here really lifted my heart. The colours are totally devine. I'm still working hard on mine and I really hope that it ends up looking as good as yours.
    Lots of love,
    Rosie xx

  31. Hello Hannapat, I was so delighted to see your name appear in my comments. Your throw is absolutely gorgeous. Doesn't it look so differerent with the white added, compared to the squares in the first photo. I love your pillowcases and old pine too, the throw just finishes it all off.
I read your Balance post which was really touching. I can hear how much you have been struggling, but you must focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. You are so brave and so eloquent, I am sure you must be helping many fellow sufferers. Balance is a problem we all struggle with, but you are so determined and single minded, that I am sure you will find your level.
Thank you so much for visiting me and leaving such wonderful comments. Enjoy the journey Hannapat. With much love, prayers and hugs, Linda xx
