Bamber Tastic!!

Well today has been such a treat I felt like a little girl with the worlds biggest bag of sweets tucked in her little pocket, with no one knowing its there!!

Once a month my doh (darling other half) drives me for my treatment in Prestwich with Raymond Perrin, and today we arranged for the little Es to go to a friends after preschool so we can do a little detour via this rather fab building in Eccles...

Oh yes ladies, today I visited sewing machine heaven, Bamber!! A rather big shop filled with a huge selection of sewing machine from £89 to £7000 and more (I didn't dare venture to far in that direction for the fear that I would never make it back again). I could just see a small amount of twitching develop on the doh's face as the lady started talking about the different prices....you've got to love them, they haven't got a clue!!

I was constantly drawn to the Bernina section, ooooh, but had to keep pulling myself away, boy they are pricey, but then I suppose you are talking about the Mercs of sewing machines. The very kind lady that worked there demonstrated the ones I was interested and then I had a very enjoyable 'test drive' on them all. Yes, they provide fabric for you to try out the machines, super cool!!! I tried a few including two computerised machines, which I wasn't in favour of before entering the shop, but it is fair to say that my opinion has been swayed. I just can't quite believe what these machines are capable of. The options of stitches and even letter writing, oh my (wish I took a pic of this machine)!!!! You don't even need to use your foot and I think once you have programmed it, you can go and pop the kettle on and by the time you get back it will all be done!, now that's what I call weird, or style maybe?! Something I think I could get use to!

To top it, the floor above was decked with fabric, wool, ribbon, buttons, patterns, you name it, everything a little bee would love, my idea of heaven, yip it surely was Bamber Tastic!!!! The doh kept checking to see if I was ok. It must have been the rapid breathing that gave it away, or possibly just that very attractive gawping look and the odd spot of dribble. It doesn't take much to figure out that I don't get out often, ha ha!!

So what did I walk away with, some new needles for my sewing machine, some wool and dressmakers chalk, no machine just yet, but there is most definitely a plan for a new one in the near future, so for now it is just figuring out which I prefer?! What are your experiences with computerised machines and/or what are your preferences?? What make is your little sewing companion??

I could happily have spent the entire day there and I think my doh has picked up on that and has kindly offered another trip there soon, he is such a gem!! I love the fact that he just support what I love and what I do and I love him so much more just for this!! To finish off a wonderful morning we enjoyed a lovely lunch at Nando's, I don't think I will ever tire of their food.

Wishing you all a lovely Thursday xoxo

  1. Hi Hannapat, what a lovely day and yes he sounds very sweet and supportive! I use the old-fashioned singer and a modern over-locker. I don't how I would choose if i had the choice. If you have just done a sewing class you've probably got a good idea what you want. I have just brought a very simple a-line skirt pattern! so hopefully i will give it a try soon. Heather x

    1. Sure is lovely Heather. The overlocker has been part of my dilemma as I thouhgt that I might just get one of those and keep my machine, but I hope to have one of mum's soon. No unfortunately didn't really get much input on machines from the course. Ooh, exciting! Looking forward to seeing it my dear! xo

  2. I love the look of the older models along the shelf! As you know I've got an older one, think its from the 60's, I've a got an even prettier one, much older but that needs all it electrics sorting out before I even dare switch it on! Mine has zig zag and straight stitches, nothing fancy!
If I'm honest I think a new whizzy machine would frighten the living day lights out of me, I wouldn't use a fraction of the stitches and I think Clarice might get a bit jealous! Saying that, I see some fantastic things done on them!
It great having a DOH who supports and doesn't question our hobbies isn't it! :) x

  3. What a lovely day out, and a great DOH you have! Loved seeing all the old sewing machines....I have an old one I don't use, though I might do again one day. I use a new-ish machine as my previous one broke last year. I like very simple machines as I like doing very simple sewing!
